iPhone & iPad Setup
iOS has no shortage of good IPTV players, and most of them support AirPlay — which turns your iPad into a remote control for the living-room TV.
Before you start
- iPhone or iPad running iOS 15 or newer
- An App Store account
- Your M3U link or Xtream Codes login
Step by step
-
Install a playlist player
Search the App Store for GSE Smart IPTV, Smarters Player Lite or IPTVX. All three accept both M3U links and Xtream Codes credentials.
-
Add the playlist
Tap the plus button and paste your M3U URL, or fill in the server, username and password fields for Xtream Codes. The Xtream route is faster and populates artwork automatically.
-
Allow local network access
iOS asks for permission the first time the app searches for devices. Approve it, or AirPlay and network discovery will silently fail later.
-
Load the EPG
Add the guide URL under playlist settings and refresh. The schedule for the next seven days appears within a minute.
-
Enable picture-in-picture
Most iOS players support PiP. Turn it on in the app settings so a stream keeps playing while you use other apps.
Make it work better
- Use AirPlay to send a stream to an Apple TV or a modern smart TV instead of watching on the phone.
- Keep the device on the 5 GHz band for 4K playback — the 2.4 GHz band rarely sustains it.
- If a stream starts and stops, close background apps. iOS throttles network priority for apps in the background.
Common questions
Can I watch IPTV on an iPhone without an app?
Not practically. Safari cannot load M3U playlists, so a player from the App Store is required.
Does AirPlay work with IPTV?
Yes. Any player that supports AirPlay can mirror or hand off the stream to an Apple TV or compatible smart TV.
Why does the stream stop when I lock the screen?
Background playback must be enabled in the player settings, and iOS still pauses some apps when the device locks. Picture-in-picture avoids the problem entirely.
